Deathwish,

Between the panny 50' 720p and the pionner kuro. What is the difference? It doesn't go into much explanation on best buy's website. I am going with one of these tv. I told my wife how much an elite was and I thought she was gonna kill me. I can't complain. I spend lots of money on car parts.

Panasonic and Pioneer share technology but generally Panasonic gets a little older stuff. As a poor analogy, right now Pioneer is in its 8th generation plasma display technology, you will likely see that in the next generation of Panasonics (for less money, and arguably with all the bugs worked out). That doesn't mean they are bad in any way shape or form, unless calibrated I highly doubt you will be able to tell much of a difference between the two. I ended up picking up the Pioneer 5080 because my calibrator recommended it and I got it for a smashing deal through a friend at BB (<~$1300).

so i want a plasma and ive been reading and theres the people who have no burn in at all(Deathwish) and when i look other places people have problems with it and how when they watch 4:3 how the bars and still on the side and faded and these are the stuff that drive me away from it, and the higher power consumption and heat levels.

The Pioneer has darker blacks. That's the biggest difference. Much darker blacks makes the image much more vivid and increases your contrast ratio significantly.

It's harder to see it in a bright room like the sales floor, but in a dark room the blacks of a plasma really stand out more. Taking the 4280 home and seeing how amazing it looked made me drool.

On top of that, Pioneer has arguably the best video processor you're gonna find in any HDTV. What does that mean? More detail, significantly better SDTV image(honestly comparable to DVD), truer colors, better upscaling/downscaling are the main things. If I'm not mistaken, most HDTVs will do unnecessary processing on a signal(e.g. 720p signal being fed to a 720p resolution HDTV). The Pioneer however does not do what is not needed which minimizes loss in pq.

Is it worth it? Hell yeah, especially at how much the price of the Pioneers have dropped. If you really want a deal, wait a little bit as prices are going to drop once the next gen of Pannys come out. Also the next gen of Pannys should be much more comparable to the current Pioneers

I can talk about the Pioneer plasma all day...it made 360 games look soo much better I felt playing everything over again

For 4:3 TV I just keep it on just with stretches the outside more than the middle which isn't nearly as bad as normal stretch mode.

I leave 4:3 normal and don't have problems, but I may be the exception to the rule. My Pioneer was hot as hell when I got it (), but after getting it calibrated it is much cooler and uses less power (the calibrator hooked it up to some fancy device to show me this).

I don't see any reason you can't use a computer on a plasma. The only precaution I'ld consider is to have a screen saver and autohide your taskbar

Just saw both the 42" pannys on the list from the 1st page at BrandSmart for very good prices. One was $998 and the anti-glare was $1098. Also saw a 1080P Aquos for $1298. Heres a link to the Sharp in reference.
Sharp 42" AQUOS Flat Panel 1080p LCD HDTV In Black - LC42D64U

If you live near one, BrandSmart always tends to have much better prices than any other big retailer. Just make sure you are looking at the correct price for an item as many tags and specs are wrong on display stickers.

ok... my Pioneer pdp5080 is on it's way to me!! excited I am!

but something I need to know (and should have thought about ahead of time) is can anyone tell me the size of the tv WITH the stand? all I can find is the size without and would really like to know the dimensions with the stand before it gets here.

any help would be dandy!

ETA: I would want this correct?

...what the hell is this?!?!?

.... I can't wait!

... I'd be getting a 360 with hdmi if they fixed the DRM problems...
