My contrast is 62. I just went thru the H3 setup again and ended up fiddling with the settings. (I had to modify them before so my computer looked usable over it)
I'll give it another go tomorrow and see if it looks better. Me sleep now.

using the halo 3 setup (I went through it just cause I was bored one day) is like using the thx setup found on pixar movies... It might look good for that one movie, but in general they are NOT a good setup choice. I've ordered one of the DVE discs that I should get about the same time as my new TV...

Alright, I didn't want to make another thread on this so I'm hoping I catch some eyes using this thread. It has gone over again and again, but I'm stuck and really need some help. Once again I'm sorry for such a redundant topic. Alright, it is a show down, which one to get?

I went to get the plasma today but the sales guy was talking me out of it for some reason. Usually when I go I buy exactly what I want, but this man spent 10 minutes trying to tell me plasma's have burn in, horrible glare, yada yada yada. So in complete frustration with him and my daughter getting too fussy, I left the store. Alright, so here are the two. First, Plasma...

Panasonic - 50" 720p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV - TH-50PX75U

I like it, it seems nice, mind you dora, diego, Law and Order and the occasional movie will be played on the set. How are all those little logos going to be? They going to hurt the whole burn in thing? Granted I haven't heard anyone really complain about it for a while now.

Next, DLP.
Samsung - 50" 1080p Slim-Depth DLP HDTV - HLT5076S

I like the idea of one, but having a hard time talking my wife into it. We will be sitting eye level about 6+ feet back.

I like them both but the whole burn in thing is steering me away for some reason. How dumb am I being?

Ahah, so you may be getting a 720p set now?

Just fucking with you.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure burn-in on plasmas is pretty much a non-issue now as long as you have the settings right ie. contrast isn't cranked. I'm pretty sure most stations logos are translucent anyways (picture behind shows thru a bit).

If they tell you about the cost of getting the plasma refilled though, just leave. I'm surprised he's trying to talk you out of something, especially when you go in with something in mind already (and therefore know your shit). Bad business IMO.

Seriously, I've never had that happen! You figured someone walks in and says "Hi, I want to purchase the Panasonic 50 plasma." you'd jump all over it. Not this guy. It was almost like he was just hella lazy to go get it. As for the 720p set, yeah, I got my 1080p set (40 inch) and listening to the guys here who know their shit, I'm going to go with what they say, see how it turns out.

i own the 50" panny and i love it to death. the picture quality is great and the sound isn't all too bad either. in store it had the best picture behind the pioneers. i can't speak for the samsung but everything looks great on my panny so far. note that my tv hasn't been calibrated and it still looks great. only thing i've yet to test is high-def movies on it but that'll be pretty soon since i just purchased a ps3.

Were you really cautious about burn in or was it kind of a after thought? I don't know why all of a sudden I'm paranoid about this but I am. My buddy has a tiny room where he smokes, never dusts and leaves it as a computer monitor for most of the day and never had a problem with burn in. And he treats it like shit! My luck I'd be over protective and still get it.

initially i was worried about burn in when deciding on getting an lcd or a plasma. but deathwish and the other guru's assured me that burn in was a thing of the past. i've never had any issues with burn in. i've played mass effect almost 12 hours straight with no problems and i've also left a game on pause for well over 4 hours (went to the store) and have had no issues with burn in.
