Why bother converting at all? I use a free program called TVersity on my computer to stream ALL my media to my Xbox or whatever other device on the home network (Cable Boxes, Wii, Some TVs, Sling box, Apple TV etc.) I just dump the AVI, MPG4, even quicktime files into my shared folder and I am watching, playing, viewing all my media content on my TV

Videora...

So I dled the videora software suggested above but it's asking for my 360's firmware version during the initial set up. Where do I find that out? I checked the console settings and system info but none of the numbers match

It there a thread anywhere that shows how to use TVersity? I have set it up on my PC and SOMETIME it shows up on my xbox as being available other times it won't. Yet the TVersity on my PC is always running. Nothing has ever changed with the firewall yet sometimes it works, but a majority of the time it doesn't. Has anyone got this to work right and if so how did you do it?

So forgive my newness at all this. I've been streaming avi files through my xbox 360 to my tv with no troubles, but if i want to rip a dvd from my own collection to view it on my xbox i have to rip it - then convert it? Is my understanding correct?

There is no DVDripping program that will rip straight to an avi or mpeg that the xbox will read with no codec issues? There's got to be something out there that you can put a disc in, press "rip" and have a file that plays on the xbox?

Cheers for the help on this. It's starting to drive me crazy.
