I'll stick with Blu-ray until stated otherwise.

My PS3 does a great job with HD Video, and upscales DVDs fine.

That's all I need. Now I have to wait until the Bluray burners come down to a normal price bracket...

blu-ray and hd dvd just need to implement something in their players that will upscale dvd's, then they would put this shit out of business, and i would definitely buy one or the other.

Actually most BluRay players and HD-DVD players do upscale DVDs...quite well at that.

ACTUALLY, that's not so true anymore. Toshiba's created a triple layer HD-DVD that's been given the thumbs up by the (HD) DVD group for majority compatability. That would put it at a . . . what was that? 51GB, go figure

In terms of actual disc features, HD-DVD still holds a lead too. Many publishers would probably describe Blu-Rays Java as "broken", thus why using the propietary code on HD-DVD is much more common for extras that Blu-Ray simply won't get.

Lastly, Blu-Ray doesn't REQUIRE lossless audio. HD-DVD currently requires a lossless soundtrack in DD+. Noteworthy for those not looking to buy a new receiever, the player is capable of decoding into analog.

Sorry guys, it's not so clean cut anymore.

Hmm... I can see that VMD format going the same way as that video disk format. Any of you remember those? They were big-ass disks, and not many movies were out on them. They also scratched REALLY easily. I watched Terminator 2 on it and it was pretty cool, but not as cool as DVD.

I think VMD is going to have to do some REALLY heavy marketing to get off the ground. Hell, Bluray and HD-DVD are only just starting to pick up, but most of the hard work is already done. People know the brands, which is a start.

if anything starts doing better than HD-DVD then the swinging dicks at M$ will just throw more $$$'s at the movie companies so they cant release the movies on other formats for x amount of months.

Where they the disks out when DVD first came out the size of a vinyl record?
