I use a VGA cable and big ass CRT Dell monitor at the highest Res the 360 allows. I think 1280 x 1024? Isn't that like equivelant to 720p?

I tried both of these out i i reckon there is a difference but it's not a major difference. I prefer to sit on 720p because 1080p puts pixelated dots in animated menus sometimes.

1280x1024 is not widescreen. So if you monitor is fullscreen you're fine, which I imagine it is given that it is a CRT.
1280x1024 like said is higher than 720p in resolution but lower than 1080i/p. But of course, that doesn't really make a difference as almost all 360 games are rendered in 720p

I gotta say, 720p > 1080p on this one.

720p in no way is better than 1080p.
The point is, 720p and 1080p resolution HDTVs have the same pq given all else is the same

the way i thought about it while purchasing a pj, 1080 cost alot more, and 720 has been around longer, therefor i decided to buy a higher end 720 instead of a 1080, and then ill wait maybe 5 years and see where 1080 is at, if not something else thats bigger and better, i wanted to give 1080p more time to develope before owning one.

They already have: Super Hi-Vision - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
7,680 × 4,320 resolution. 16 times more pixels than 1080p.
33,177,600 pixels vs 2,073,600 pixels. Imagine the detail from a native Super Hi-Vision signal.
But of course you wouldn't need an HDTV with a native resolution of 7680x4320 to see all the detail in the signal.
