If you listen to the sales guy you will also end up with a $100 1.5m HDMI cable.
I used the 360s official HDMI cable with my PS3 before swapping it to my 360, I then hooked up a £10 cable to my PS3. Expensive(ish) cable v cheap cable, but no difference in the picture whatsoever.

If your looking for cheap cables check out Monoprice. I have gotten multiple cables from them and they all work great

@ the original topic you can tell the difference if you sit close enough, and its not the fact that its not that much better, it's so good you eyes can't see all the detail (unless your close enough).
1920x1080 = 2,073,600 pixels
1280x720 = 921,600 pixels
1080p has 1,152,000 more pixels.
I wish we would make 1080p the standard already

You shouldn't be sitting that close..or close enough to see the difference.
And besides, I don't want 1080p being the standard since so much of my content is not yet 1080p...it means I would have to upscale crappier signals and that's not going to look as good in high res at my 720p does. That's why I prefer and bought a 720p display. Looks great with the lower quality signals and looks the same on the higher quality signals.

Depends if you want to listen to THX. Honestly I don't, but for some reason they insist that your peripheral vision should consume the screen too.

On my 50" set, I'm typically about 6-7ft back on the love seat. When I am on the couch, I'm about 10ft back.

Back in Jan after months of research on the AVS forums and here I got my 50" 720p panny plasma and haven't looked back.
This TV frickin rocks, no regrets on getting the 720p.
It really shines with the hd channels and xbox. I still can't believe how clean it is.
My best friend actually didn't take my advise and got a 52" 1080p lcd Sharp and there is no comparison.
My tv actually looks a lot better with dvd and hd channels, not sure about gaming since he doesn't really game like me.
I've tried to help him setup the display options but it's still real grainy.
I would suggest to anyone buying a tv to do a lot of research and never listen to the guy on the sales floor.
Just my 2 cents.
Thanks again for the great advise Deathmatch/pparks.

Glad you're happy with your 720p Panny. And if your Panny looks better for DVDs and HD Channels, it's definitely going to look better for gaming too!

You could have done a lot worse than a Samsung DLP. I'm running DLP right now myself

They insist because it immerses you into the experience more. I'm sitting too far back atm and my peripheral vision isn't covered by my image....definitely takes away from the experience as I get distracted by everything else around my image.

Well if you plan on moving up you might as well be using a 1080P display and source.

I can't really move up. My living room, kitchen and dining room are all really one giant room....so my I don't have many layout options because of walkways and whatnot. Oh and my floors are concrete lol...don't even want to know what my frequency curve looks like.
I've thought about selling my DLP for an LCD pj. I could use a better zoom and some lens shifting. I'ld probably get a Panny.
