Very good post man. I couldnt tell the difference either. I watched Batman Begins on a 1080p sony set and although I dont have that film it didnt look much better than any other movies I've seen in 720p

That's the entire point

So for the time being...save your money and get a 720p set...unless you really have money to blow!

With regards to the topic at hand: 1080p is a marketing gimmick, more or less.
my tv only supports up to 1080i but looks better then any other tv ive seen running in 1080p

Would one get a Panasonic TH50PX75U or a Sony 1080p LCD?

That's nothing at all to do with the resolution type/setting. It's just a difference between the Tv's.

The Panasonic no question. Darker blacks, more natural picture, higher contrast

I guess that posting never did say whether the top was 1080 or the bottom, right? For most people I would say the difference in viewing would be negligible, but from what I saw on that posting the bottom pictures were brighter, and appeared to have more detail - particularly in the shot with all of the trees/bushes. Look at the leaves - I would guess the bottom set of pics is 1080.

Yeah I think that difference in detail has to do with the gamma curve, not the resolution.

I would move like a foot or two back and get a 26" $400.
