Surround Sound Sugestions????

I have a cheap $50 surround sound that I recieved for free and it's about as good as you'd expect a $50 surround sound to be so I'm looking for a new one. I'm willing to spend around $200 to $300. I'm thinking about getting this one.Sony HTDDW795 850W 5.1 Home Theater System - Wal-MartI know absoultely nothing about surround sound so all I know is this one sound pretty good in the store. I want to use it mostly for blu-ray movies on my ps3. Also what is better using audio cables the red and white ones or using an optical cable? An optical cable right? And is there any diffrence between the cheap ones and the pricey ones or is it just like hdmi and the expensive ones are just a big rip off?

Onkyo's got some of the best HTiB's around. I'm definitely going Onkyo for my next receiver; when i go HD.

One thing i realized about the Sony's when i was looking for my first system was that the Sony's have the wiring built in, i believe. That means u can't swap out the speaker wire for any longer/shorter or thicker (like 16 AWG).

I went Yamaha (recommended), since Onkyo was a little more expensive. I actually bought my receiver and speakers separate. The speakers that would have come with my receiver in the HTiB package had a really weak, [passive] sub. I went with a slightly more powerful 5.1 speaker system Yamaha sold, that had an active subwoofer, and bought the HTR-5930 separately.

Sony's build quality has gone down hill over the last 5 years or so.

For the same money you can get a Yamaha or Onkyo, two of the best names in Home Theatre gear.

Get the Onkyo HT-SR600 or the HT-SR800, the best thing with either of these systems is that the speakers can be upgraded, and the receiver is still big enough to run them.

sony is like bose when it comes to compatibility, they only work with themselves. and that = dumb

I have no experience with onkyo, but going with any receiver is a better option then going with an htib

Onkyo imo makes the best HTiB for $300 followed by Yamaha. Sony is okay, but their audio in general leaves much to be desired.

Optical is digital and is imo always better than red/white. The instant I start using optical the sound is much richer. Not to mention you can't get surround sound unless you use optical.

An optical cable is an optical cable, it either works or it doesn't. I recommend you buy all your cables from monoprice.com

Sony makes crap speakers. And you will get rumble from the Onkyo or Yamaha systems.

I have a Sony HTDDW800 in my Game room and I have an Onkyo HT-SR800 in my living room. I got the Onkyo from Accessories4less and paid almost the same I paid for the Sony and the Onkyo is hands down a way better system.

What are people's opinion are the Bose surround sound system? I want surround sound but don't want the clutter of wires and I am afraid the wireless rear speakers would mess with my router and wireless phones. FYI, I am not an audiophile and I enjoy the sound quality of the Bose radio we have.
