Sony and Sharp imo make the best LCDs.

Pioneer is coming out with LCDs soon. They will use Sharp panels and use their own processor...it may be better than a Sony LCD.

Although I would get a plasma over an LCD in almost every situation

Plasma and burn in not a problem anymore. I'd buy a Plasma over an LCD any day of the week. Either Panasonic, Pioneer or Samsung (in that order)

As far as LCD goes, Sony has the best I believe. However, they haven't really stood behind a problem that I have experienced with my LCD TV and I will never purchase another one of their displays again.

For low cost options, I believe that Vizio's have some of the best bang for the buck in the LCD arena.

I would still recommend Plasma though. Signficantly better black levels and more natural colors.

The only thing which is "future proof" is DEATH. Did I mention, I absolutely hate the use of the term "future proof".

For an LCD I would say Sony, but as you may know Sony can be expensive.
