digital optical cable output on monster cable plug?!
I recently purchased the Monster Cable plug ( Monster Cable -- GameLink 360 VGA A/V Cable) to hook up to my projector. I also want to be able to hook it up to my 5.1 surround sound. As of right now it only uses the red and white plug which doesnt produce 5.1. I did some searching and realized i need a digital optical cable. My amp has an output for it but im not sure that the Monster Cable plug does. I looked on the back and it's some circular hole instead of the squarish hole that the original 360 cable (with the rgb hook ups) came with.
any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

It should produce 5.1. The RCA cables should.

You can't get 5.1 out of RCA cables.
You're going to need an optical cable. I don't see that the cable you bought includes one. Don't buy Monster. They are overpriced. Buy one of these:
Audio Cables - Optical Toslink

Yeah that doesn't look like it has one on it, unfortunately.
My suggestion is to just buy the Microsoft one below and an optical cable through monoprice. Then return that Monster cable.

I use the Monster Cables myself. It has a small gold 3.5mm minioptical port that connects to a dongle that gives you a standard optical output.
In fact, I just realized that it was a minioptical port and not a normal 3.5mm stereo port(which wouldn't make sense).
So hopefully you have the dongle that came with the Monster Cables and you can just get yourself an optical cable. If you don't, then get a minioptical to optical cable.
I pretty much only buy cables from monoprice.com btw, cheap prices but great quality

Yes I believe that should work perfectly well. Come to think of it, I think I have one of those exact cables laying around
