HDTV Refresh Rate... Affect Xbox?

Hi i am interested in buying this tv LG - 42" 720p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV. But i cannont find the specs for its milliseconds of lag. My reason for looking the lag up is my brother has an hdtv that lags horribly and playing guitar hero becomes impossible without calibrating the lag. What i did find is the

Screen Refresh Rate at

60Hz

and looking into it further confuses me. Then i found this expenisve tv Hitachi - Director's Series 37" 1080p 120Hz LCD HD Monitor
which has a refresh rate of 120.

Is Screen Refresh Rate the same as the tvs lag or is that completley different and how do they both affect gaming?

I posted having problems with HDTV lag earlier and I just got a slew full of those useless posts saying "It must just be you"

I will tell you what I know, First Screen refresh rate is only one of many things that can cause lag. Out of the research I have done gamers want 120hz, I dont know much about the physics of refresh rate but you are about to go into something else that causes bad lag, a 768p Tv.

I will try to keep it short. The real resolution of 720p tv's is 1366x768. 720p isnt really used much anymore because 1366x768 fits the tv better. This is where your game system comes in. Plug in HDMI or component and you are only aloud to put out 720p This means your tv scales that 720p to a higher resolution resulting in lag. Some tvs are better than others about processing, but even if you have the best of the best there is lag whether you notice it or not.

So what can you do? Instantly narrow your search down to 1080p, like I said earlier a lot of things can cause input lag and this is no guarantee but its one less thing to worry about.

Take a look at Tv shopping and look at the native resolution of the TVs. They are listed right below the picture on wal marts site

keep in mind most tv's advertised at 120hz just have extra frames. I.E. the same frame is shown twice.

the number u may be looking for is response time, which is well under 10 milliseconds.

as for it effecting gaming, ur xbox games are 60fps, so it would not do much of anything.

PS: y pay 1000 for that lg when you could pay 1000 for a panasonic plasma, samsung plasma, or hell even the shitty plasma counterpart of what your looking at.

o, and please tell me u did not just post a link to wal-mart tv's

Lag has nothing to do with Refresh Rates or Response Time. No company lists if their HDTVs experience lag...why would they?

Almost all HDTVs exhibit no noticeable lag. There are a few that do, but it's really quite rare. Instead of that 42" LG LCD, go for a 42" Panasonic plasma and I can pretty much guarantee you'll be gaming lag free and you'll have a better picture anyway
