Oblivion or Fallout?

Ok so I am looking to get a good RPG for my computer that I can play while I am at home from school over winter break. Now I am going out on a limb here, but i will assume that most of the people who played Fallout also played Oblivion. Now I was just looking for your opinion on which was a more entertaining and immersive experience.

Note that I will be buying Fallout GOTY edition if I get it

Fallout 3 is a great game and the DLC is decent but you really should buy Oblivion instead if it has to be just one of them.

I have both games, I think fallout the graphics have developed much more and if your looking for a challenge i recommend Fallout 3. Plus the DLC are much better and more fun to play and of course you can kill people in their sleep........

I loved both games, I spent more than 90hrs on Oblivion and actually getting all the achievements on Fallout 3, so hard decision for me

I'd say go for Fallout 3, the whole post-apocalyptic enviroment is mind blowing and the VATS fighting will never get you bored. BUT If you like medieval theme games (magic, swords, bows, knights, archers...etc) go for Oblivion which is awesome too.

You could probably get both GOTY editions for the price of new game, but if you have to choose one or the other then....Oblivion.
Both are great but I've played Oblivion more and prefer using swords
I'd still recommend getting Fallout 3 when you can.

Oh and whatever game you get, make sure its the GOTY edition.

My play time:

Oblivion - 250+ hours
Fallout 3 - 45 hours (although I just re-bought it to play through the expansions)

So I agree with Jamie. If you can only get one, get Oblivion. Just make sure to play both eventually

Well, IMO, the combat's bad in Oblivion. Bow+Arrows are the only things that interested me, as the melee system is as bad as it is in Fallout (although with more clunky weapons to choose from...), and I found the magic to be, well, boring and annoying. So, while going down the sneaky/ranged route was fun for me, it really meant that, after playing through as a bosmer, none of the other races seemed fun.

To me fallout is much better, but, unfortunately, less consuming. It will take less time for you to put it down, but, for me, that time was more enjoyable.

Personally I like the theme and atmosphere of Oblivion better so that's one reason why I liked Oblivion better. But Oblivion has more quests, a better story imo, not as depressing, and a much more deep RPG than Fallout 3. I spent over 250 hours on Oblivion and spent about 60 hours in Fallout 3. Still they are both good games and you will not regret buying either of them.

Both, but if you are financially limited, Oblivion.
