need some tips - fifa 08
Im quite new to football games and I have been playing fifa 08 for a few hours and need some tips. Im finding the game difficult and keep loosing matches I shouldn't. I have it on amature with all the different options, such as crosing, on assist.
I find it very difficult to get passed defenders 1 on 1 and the only way I ever get anywhere is by passing all the time.

First of all, you should move the ball around, do not make vertical passes all the time.
Knowing the difference of when to use A and Y is important.
For beginners, crossing from the wings can be a good way to score.
There are 3 types of crosses:
High cross: X once
Low cross: X twice
Ground cross: X 3times
I find the ground cross the most effective of this three, even tho It can't be used always.
When defending.
Do not run directly to the attacker, try to wait for the right time to tackle.
Try walking backwards holding LT to wait for it.

Oh and for 1 on 1 try to shoot to the nearer post

I almost always find what I press Y for a through ball, there defenders always intercept it which is a pain.
to cross the ball, Do i just tap X when in the wing, aiming for the center?
Thanks for the tips, any more?

Double tapping X will cause you to do a low cross, just pressing X once delievers a cross at about head height.
I also use Y but only in the attacking third, pressing Y will mean you play the ball slightly ahead of the person you are passing to. It won't actually go 'through' the opposition, so you need to be careful.
I believe holding LB and Y allows you to play a lofted through ball, causing you to pass a ball in the air and slightly ahead of your team mate so he can run on to it. I found this really useful.
To get pass an opponent on a 1v1 situation (if using a fast player) I always use the the Right Stick (might be left, haven't played in a while) to push the ball far ahead of you (but still in your control) to run on to. This helps when it is down the wing but in the middle of the field it can be risky.

Yes, holding A will cause to automatically call the first defender, that would be you, when holding B will cause another player to run for the ball.

Just use a combination of passing and crossing the ball. pass the ball around with 'a' to make space when in midfield, and send in a through ball if you have fast strikers with a lot of space made available. try holding LB as well to send a through ball over the top of the defenders. The best way to get better is to play more - offline i would reccomend, and try to get a feel for the game.
Ignore the fancy tricks etc and focus on the game, and how it should be played to effect.

Sometimes when passing hold LB and the player who passed the ball will quickly run up the pitch and you will have more attacking options. This works well for me say when I'm playing and Man United I would pass the ball from Hargreaves to Rooney and Hargreaves would quickly run up and I would put a lobbed ball through and 8/10 times I get a goal from it. Also Finesse shots are fantastic, especially when you're 1 on 1 with the keeper as you can place the ball anywhere.

Do what around half the people I get matched with do...
1. Pick Manchester United.
2. Pass until Ronaldo gets the ball.
3. Use his amazing speed to run up the wing and then start to move into the penalty box.
4. Pass along the ground to a running Tevez or Rooney and slot it in to top/bottom corner of the left/right side of the goal.
It's so fucking easy and it shouldn't really be under the class of "goal" ¬_¬
