Gran Turismo to Forza>>>
Hey guys, I'm new on the forums so bare with me....
I've only ever played GT, since the very beginning.
I've just bought an XBOX360 yesterday with GTAIV and my next "port of call" is Forza.
As much as I've loved GT, I've grown tired of it being so anal and precise but at the same time robotic and dull.
(Fastest car? = Win)
Can you recommend Forza?
Just how good is it in comparison?
How is the AI?
GT is uber-realistic in so far as graphics and handling goes, but it just lacks that certain something, it can feel a very lonely game and I'm looking for something with a bit more "oomph" and "buzz"...
Does Forza "fit the bill"?
Obviously this is a Forza Forum and will be frequented by nothing but fans of the game, but can you sell it to me, a defector?
Thanks.
Rikki.

I find Forza handles better than GT, with the exception of GT5: Prologue. The handling in Forza just makes sense. You modify a part in your car and it does what you'd expect it to do. I like that.
Add to that the damage and it adds a whole new level which GT doesn't have. There's no bouncing off invisible walls, there's no car pinball. If you rub a tire wall, then it's gonna grip to your car and you'll be thrown into a spin. Hit a cement wall and it will be different again.
While the damage in Forza isn't state-of-the-art, it changes a racing simulator in a big way.
And then, for the creative people, you can design the paint job on your car. The online trading section is huge and has a lot of awesome custom cars. Make your own and auction it online so you have more cash to spend in game.
Just read a few threads in this section. It will give you a feel for what it's like. If you're still not sure, hire it out.
Oh, and I highly recommend the wireless wheel for Forza.

I'm in the same boat as you Starr_Man. I've been an avid GT player all my life, but come this weekend when finals are over it's bye bye to the PS2 and hello 360 and Forza Motorsport 2. Like jimmy said, read the threads covering FM2 and look around...I for one cant wait to get my hands on the game because, as you stated, GT just isn't doing it for me anymore.
Jimmy, are the wireless wheels for the 360 really nice and easy to get used to? I used to try the racing wheels for the PS2 and just couldn't ever get into them.

I find the wireless wheel excellent. I was pretty crap with the PS2 wheels as well, but for the first time ever the wheel actually improved my lap times!
It's comfortable, sturdy, solid, and the feedback is strong. It's probably one of the best, if not THE best, wheels I've used.

Awesome, thanks. Yeah I never liked any of the PS2 wheels, they always made my times crap. I may look into a 360 wheel now.

Thanks for the pointers Jimmy.
The simple fact that cars get damaged in Forza is the pinnacle make-weight of the decision to switch; that's a realism I'm craving.
I've just finished GT4 recently, 100%, all gold licenses (been at that one since the game was released), collected all the cars.
Apparently GT5 will be "Just another GT" - shiny and new and gorgeous to look at, yet anal and boring and yawnsome.
I want to race around a course with my heart pounding in case I slam into a wall and wreck my "Baby" - dodging other cars for fear of putting each other out.
In GT you can actually use other cars as brakes if you so desire.
Destroys the realism.

Your gonna love forza if your craving realism.
Something as simple as an air induction kit can mean the difference of winning and losing.
Best of all, no licenses to get before you can attempt a race

I Concur. I hated the whole licence thing. Stupid imo.
& the amount of stuff you can do to the cars in Forza will have you occupied for ages. Get it now.

Unfortunately I can't go out and buy it just yet.
I've just spent £200 on a new XBOX360 with GTAIV, claiming "I'll only need that game to begin with!" ( )
I'll have to leave it for a few weeks to let the dust settle with the wife.
If I went out tomorrow and spent another £40 on "Another GAME!!???" there'd be hell to pay.
In fairness I'll likely get it within a week or two, and it'll take me longer than that to get round half of Liberty City.

i loved forza 2... if it wasnt for me getting a little depressed around that time then i would probably still be playing it... i really enjoyed the custom paint jobs part of it. You can make some crazy stuff. I was working on a Dawn of the Dead themed car that was gonna turn out sick, but i ended up dropping the game before i finished. I like the customization of the game as well. It is like christmas all over again when you finally save up enough money to go drop some stuff in your car... have at it and i think you will like it.
