yea, one issue with COD4 and H3 is you have to go to certain gametypes to play certain maps. i.e.- Sandtrap in H3 only comes up in BIG TEAM BATTLE, etc.

True! but there are reasons for that. The map is insanely large so it would not be fitting for a smaller team deathmatch or free for all as it would take forever to get around the map and find anyone!

No offense to you whomper, just venting, man.

Well I disagree with you. I hate the matchmaking system.
I hate the fact that I buy the maps on COD4 and I've played each map twice. I've never even played killhouse.
I think its a stupid idea.
If noone picks the map you want. Then you host it.

Is matchmaking what Halo3 has? If so, then I hate matchmaking. I would much prefer a list of servers telling me the game mode, number of players, and map of each different server. I feel like matchmaking is such a random process, what happens if I want to play with only a few people? Or only a high number? Or even want to judge the ping myself.
The one thing I hate about being online on the 360 is not being able to pick individual servers. It makes me miss Steam, or even the original WON system (Half-Life multiplayer).
The great thing about Gears, I find, is that it gives me a list so I can choose a server based on what I want. I hate being randomly thrown into a mix.

So there are equal points on both sides. I think the perfect solution for me would be a Party system like in Halo 3 where you can party up with X amount of people and go from game to game, but still have the freedom to choose which map you wanted to play, unlike matchmaking.
I have a question.....so if there will be matchmaking, does that mean there will be a GEARS2 server like bungie, with no host? That would eliminate host lag.

I can't stand Gears of War's multiplayer, in terms of getting friends in your game. I would much rather trade being able to select my own map, and get being able to have your friends with you and on your team.
With Gears of War, you would have to go into an uneven room then invite your friend and pray that he ends up on your team. Not to mention, you can't invite friends to ranked games...It's a piece of shit system. Matchmaking is well needed. I should be able to invite friends into ranked games, and it shouldn't be a hassle to get friends on my team.
It's just like you guys were trying to justify the host advantage and bullet lag. "Omg, I don't care, leave it the way it is..It is a part of Gears of War, it should be in the 2nd one." It's just stupid...

Bungie has no dedicated server for gaming, only for stat tracking and online integration, etc. Matchmaking auto-selects the person with whom everyone has the best ping rate overall and makes them the host. It is still a host-client system, but unlike GoW... it works.

Agreed on every single point. These are the problems that come with a NON MATCHMAKING system. In matchmaking, you get your friends together, and you enter the game as a TEAM... you don't HOPE your friends get on your team.
Regarding the people justifying host-lag... I agree with Andrew again....that's just stupid. This is 2008, work out a multiplayer system that WORKS properly.
