GoW2 WILL have a party system!
An interview published on Joystiq this morning with CliffyB is pretty interesting.
I personally cannot WAIT for GoW2 as I bought my 360 when GoW came out (i planned on waiting for halo3) and played it nearly every single day until Halo3 came out. I will be getting GoW2 on day 1 now that I know this.
A party system entails moving from room-to-room so it looks like matchmaking will be implemented. It's the best decision they could have made for online and it will ensure this game will be a great multiplayer experience.

COD4 and Shadowrun definitely had the best lobby systems.

It probably will be matchmaking, imo. Essentially, if you stayed in a lobby in GoW1 and let OTHER people join, you were in your PARTY, essentially, so what would be diff without matchmaking? nothing.
Why would EPIC not have matchmaking as it's the industry standard now? (Halo3 and COD4 being the top 2 LIVE shooters.. and both have it.)
Not to mention EPIC was at BUNGIE's presentation on matchmaking at the Game Developers COnference. Bungie is trying to make their system the standard and Infinity Ward was VERY smart to get on board. EPIC should too.
At this point, if it's NOT matchmaking, then having a PARTY system is useless.

Matchmaking SHOULD be the industry standard. I'm tired of people who love GoW so much pretending that they think the LOBBY system is the way to go. Lame.

No, I think you should be able to choose your own maps, especially with weapons achievements like gears.
If they won't let you pick your own map to play it, there better not be any more damn weapons achievements.

Meh, you guys can go ahead and stay in the 90s/PC gaming/lobby system multiplayer. The rest of us will move on to the new century: matchmaking. LOL
