Gears wouldn't be good 8v8.
Everyone would bitch over the sniper. 5v5 is a nice number.

I agree, Gears is absolutely amazing and in my opinion far greater than Halo. Although the fanbase for Halo will always remain larger, most likely due to the fact that it can appeal to such a wide variety of people and basically launched Xbox's career.
Halo has pretty accessible gameplay whereas Gears at first glance is such a large change from typical games and therefore has a (slightly) steeper learning curve.
But when I think about Halo online I just picture a ton of squealing 13 year olds trying to be tough. Of all the games out for the Xbox, Halo is one that draws in the younger population and its an action game parents are likely to buy for their kids as its not that violent (bar the possibility of a small (barely noticeable) blood decal on the ground). On the other hand you have Gears which aims at, as they say, "buckets and buckets of blood".

I remember Gears of War's community being just as bad as Halo's. At least in Halo, you can easily mute them.

The community on Gears of War was usually very mature from what I saw...

Yeah that may be true, I only started playing multiplayer recently (I originally beat the campaign and put it aside) but Ive only experienced a pretty mature community. But either way, I was leaning towards the idea that parents are more likely to buy Halo for their kids rather than Gears of War. Maybe some kids will get their hands on GoW, but overall Id say parents are more willing to give Halo to their kids than other blood-filled titles. Thats how it is with my step-brothers mom anyways. Even if a parent knows nothing about games, Im positive that if they were to ask people at the store what to get for their kid Halo would be a common response.

As far as cover is concerned, Cliffy admitted that, in the original Gears,"10 percent of the time, players were going into cover when they didn't want to" so they reworked by doing "some of those [cover system] tweaks in a patch for Gears 1, we iterated on them for Gears PC, and now we're bringing it full circle for Gears 2." Simply said, GoW2 will feature what Cliffy calls the "the best cover system ever seen in the videogame industry". Can you say oh-freakin-yeah! Finally, when talking about a sequel to the upcoming sequel, Cliffy wanted to make it clear that he "never announced a [Gears of War] trilogy" no matter what any journalist says, but also wanted everyone to know that if "Gears 2 has a wonderful ship-in, if gamers buy it, then we'll consider a sequel." Confirmed. We get a trilogy if 3 million GoW2 units ship ... start pre-ordering NOW!

If Gears doesnt beat Halo3, I'll give Andrew a big sloppy............
I personally think Gears beats the shit out of Halo - but thats just my opinion. Halo is still a great game for its time, but Gears will dominate.

I agree with you there, Ifti. GoW2 will sell a respectable amount of copies, and probably come close to or beat the sales for Halo3, which will be VERY impressive since it is a much more ADULT game by nature than Halo. Many parents let their kids play Halo that won't let them play GoW, which will decrease sales.
Also the fact that gaming is becoming exponentially more profitable EVERY SINGLE YEAR, every new blockbuster franchise SHOULD outsell the previous one.

Exactly. Infinity Ward did a great thing by adding that to COD4 in their first update as well. The most useful single feature in any LIVE game is a quickmute feature.

ROFL. I'm hoping that was a joke. The unreliable nature of GoW online led to MANNNNNY angry people. Since there was so much host-client lag, people ALWAYS got mad and ALWAYS complained. People could never accept that someone might be better than them. It was always "STUPID HOST ADVANTAGE, ETC." The whole thing led to a bunch of whiners and a bunch of excuses.
I loved GoW and played it for many many MANY hours for many months, and I loved every minute of it, so don't think I'm a hater, just stating MY observations.
