As you can tell by the title and image, this one takes place in Gears of War 2. The hunt for the Easter egg started when Gears of War 2 level designer Dave Nash posted on the Gears of War 2 forums asking, “So… has anyone unlocked the dizzy hat mode easter egg in Rolling Thunder yet?”, accompanied by the picture you see above. A lot of people cried PhotoShop, but the next day forum user Grindhouse solved the mystery, and uploaded the how-to to YouTube so all could see. The hats don’t stay firmly planted on human heads, either. Check out this Cowboy Corpser video (complete with an otherwordly “YEEE-HAAWW!”).

“The easter egg was added at the height of crunch in order to give the guys & myself a little levity in the midst of some very long days,” Dave explained when pressed for more info on its existence. In other words, don’t expect perfect hat physics; and if you play online co-op and unlock the headgear, don’t be too surprised when your friend sees cowboy hats floating in front of everyone’s crotch instead of sitting on their heads.

It’s by no means a game-changing Easter egg, but it’s certainly entertaining, and its existence gives me hope of more ludicrous headwear scattered throughout the lands for the COGs to don. Check out the full post to see how to get your own cowboy hat.
