Alot of my friends asked my how to drift in GTA4 as I sometimes actually do in real life.

I thought it would be a good idea to share this information with you guys as well. It isn't new to people familiar with drifting but I felt the need for a simple tip for people who aren't. If you're like me, you probably stole a car and tried to pull off a "Taxi" or "Tokyo drift' around Liberty city. Weaving through the traffic and drifting in every single corner lol.
(technical explanation in next two paragraphs. skip to fourth if necessary)
Most people complain that the cars in GTA4 are unusually uncontrollable. Even in GTA standards. Most cars have massive nose dives and rolls and tend to understeer heavily. Even the fastest cars like the Turismo seem unable to power oversteer in the dry. From my observation, most cars have very little grip or too much grip. Just look how much a typical SUV would slide. I know you're not suppose to drift on a SUV but the behavior seems a little too exaggerated which reveals that the driving physics understandably isn't top shelf in this game.
I also noticed cheaper cars don't have ABS. Most expensive looking cars with voice navigation don't lock up their front tires when braking. I'm guessing they also have traction control but I'm not sure on this. I wish the controller would vibrate when drifting like racing games so you know the car is sliding or not. As it is, drifting is purely based on visual information so it makes it harder to pull off.

So the trick would be to pull the e-brake right? Yes, but cars in GTA4 are really sensitive, locking up the rear wheels instantly and causing the whole car to spin out real easy. Not fun at all. In real world drifting, some drivers with sensitive e-brake setting use the technique where you pull the e-brake multiple times.
Instead of pulling it once. Try fast tapping the button multiple times. It has a slight ABS effect and lets you easily control the angle of your drift. Remember, these cars are extra sensitive so you have to counter steer almost as soon as your start pulling the e-brake.
Approach corner -> steer towards the direction you want to go -> fast tap e-brake (tap tap tap real fast) -> counter steer + gas all the way -> end drift by correcting the car. For highspeed turns, a single quick tap will do. For medium turns 3~4 quick taps. For 180 turns or U turns in the GTA universe, just pull it all the way.
There seem to be a misconception among some people that drifting is faster through corners than the usual brake and turn. This isn't true!! When in pursuit don't even bother touching the e-brake. On dry tarmac, drifting is purely a stunt maneuver. Also, don't use the e-brake when it rains heavily.
Practice a few times and I'm sure you'll get the hang of e-brake drifting without spinning off.
Cheers,
