Ending an anticlimax? (No spoilers)
Hi guys,
Well I've just finished the storyline missions (at just over 70%) and to be honest, after such a good game, I felt that it was a bit of an anti climax.
I've been enjoying all the missions immensely and have never been so addicted to a game before, even given my love of the GTA series. But after the credits rolled I kind of felt like I hadn't really achieved anything.
In Vice City you turn up in a city as a nothing and work your way up and up until you practically own the place.
Its the same in SA, CJ arrives as a good for nothing hood-rat and at the end of it all you feel like you've built the character up into a credible gangster (Sorry...'gangsta')
But at the end of this Niko was just the same as he'd arrived, apart from having a bit of cash in his pockets, he's still just a loner thug living in a one bedroom apartment in a big city, he isnt the head of anything, nobody respects him any more than at the start and its all over.
Am I the only one who feels that, although the missions are great fun, it was nothing more - just a string of missions based on a story line, rather than seeing your character build up and progress through the world?

Think of it this way, Niko is fuckin bad ass. He killed everyone at the top, so if he is says hes #2 no one will dare say they are #1. You can always date guy if your lonely in the game . I thought the story was really good, it's different from the conventional i own the city ending.

Yeah, when it ended I felt a bit numb and thought was that it? the build up was amazing.. just think they could have pulled it off better at the end.

I liked VC for the storyline, and SA for the variety. Havent done IV yet,but from all the spoils ive read the ending isnt overly that good. Meh

Yeah there was a guy in his 40's on the News a while back, he was caught running up and down the street shoving pills down his throat. Police are blaming the Arcade game Pacman.

You know, rockstar told us early enough that Niko won't be the king of the hill. They wanted this one to be more of a story of a NY criminal's everyday struggle. In this one Niko is just trying to survive. Which really is a bit of a letdown on one hand, but on the other hand it has its charm. Plus in previous GTA's you didn't win much even though you supposedly owned the city. You couldn't even bribe cops etc.

Like Goblin said, Rockstar took on a different approach here with Niko just doing what he's got to do; survive. In my opinion I think the ending is supposed to be slightly unsatisfying to promote the fact that Niko hasn't acheived anything new in Liberty City. He hasn't changed for the better and the American Dream he was promised mounted to nothing but a nightmare...

I think, on that point, we shouldn't be able to make so much money in the game, considering it's practically worthless.
