I wish the Halo 1 pistol was in all the game. And don't bullshit me and tell me "Omg, there was a pistol in Halo 2 and 3!"

No...It was not the same at all. Those pistols sucked hard. The Halo 1 pistol pwned.

This might be due to the fact that, because of the new online functionality, many of the mechanics had to become more forgiving to accommodate general latency issues amongst the host-client setup in LAN and matchmade games. i.e.-the melee seemed waaayyy different.

I think that the whole nerfing of Halo 2 wasn't for online purposes. Halo PC played very well on good, low latancy servers. Surely, a small bit of tweeking with hitboxes and melee attacks would be necessary (as the melee attacks on Halo PC were fucked up beyond recognition - but that was mainly because of the horrible latancy which isn't found on Xbox Live because of the new host selectino system.), but not so much that the gameplay feels altered. Especially with the nerfing of all the weapons and eliminating fall damage.

You could brag about being good at Halo 1, but Halo 2... So what, its so toned down and mainstream anyone can win a game or two.

I think that its the other way around with vehicles. In Halo 1, the vehicles were terrible. The ghost was practically useless against a skilled pistol-user. The tank was incredibly underpowered - your average player could easily destroy one with a well placed sniper rifle bullet. And the Warthog was unbelievably overpowered - the hitbox of the vehicle in roadkill scenarios was way too big.

My question to you: Do you think matchmaking is a good idea, or would you have preferred a server list?

I LOVED THAT PISTOL. I remember that one, my friend and I use to play against each other. Pistol wars, good times!

I completely agree. The Halo1 pistol was amazing, and since then, the pistol doesn't even deserve to be picked up. My question to you, Andrew is: What's the difference between a 3-4 shot pistol kill, and a 3-4 shot BR kill with nearly the same range? A zoomable pistol that could shoot across blood gulch is a bit silly, abeit it HILARIOUS fun! I much more prefer a battle rifle to shoot across large expanses, and get a 4 headshot kill (3 headshots in Halo2, 4 headshots in H3)

In response to YOUR response... I believe you're right, I think there IS more than latency issues being taken into account. One thing that was better though, in H2 was that SINCE it was easier for someone to pick up and play, it helped close the gap between the AMAZING players and the newer players. What's wrong with newer players winning a game once in a while? lol It makes them want to stay and become better players. The skill-spread between the new and amazing was WAYYY too huge in H1.

About vehicles: the homing rockets in H2 were too powerful. The driving maps weren't very drivable, and not very fun. As is stated in the article, the maps that shine in H2 are the close range maps. ALL of the great maps in H2 lacked heavy vehicle use. in Halo1 and 3, the vehicle play was well integrated and balanced, imo. I guess I never noticed any hitbox issues when it came to splattering people? hmm

In response to your question: MATCHMAKING!! I don't know how to say it emphatically enough. Bungie pioneered something that SHOULD be an industry standard. It isn't yet, but it should be. COD4 did it. It didn't do it WELL, but it did it. Lobbies worked in GoW, but there was always something missing.

Omg Tufo. I remember having giant pistol only Blood Gutch matches with my brother and his friends. Oh man...Halo 1 was the shit. That was back when I loved Halo. Me and my brother must have played through the single player at least 4 times.

first of all i agree enormously when he talks about halo 3 lacking the small/medium map effectivness.

middy, ivory tower, acension, and even beaver creek...were amazing.
halo 3 has no small maps that compare to halo 2 maps.
although they came out with blackout, there is still no where close to all the jumps that halo 2 lockout offered. i remember jumping from bottom BR tower to top BR tower in like 5 seconds. and from "under glass" to "snipe 2" using the door frame to jump on. i miss those jumps.
