Halo 3 reclaims top spot on Xbox Live

Ok I can understand being a fan of their game, but where did that statement come from? offhand, Valve, Blizzard, Infinity Ward, Crytek, Westwood studios. There are probably around a hundred developers that have produced titles that are at least as good as the halo series. (if you are unsure who they are ill list my fav games from each one. [ Valve = Half life+Half life2 recognised as one of the fps greats, a 'list' that halo never seems to be mentioned in, Blizzard, Warcraft series, Diablo Series, WoW, Starcraft, tbh blizzard make bungie look like small fry, Infinity ward = cod4, Crytek = Farcry1, Westwood studios = the c&c series]) what have bungie done? the Myth games(I think they are probably before peoples time here, but they wre basically a puzzle game based on photos from what I remember, oni (never played this 1 myself) and Halo (1 2 and 3 are the same game) Halo had such potential before microsoft bought bungie, it then became a mundane unorigonal shooter

I cannot say Halo is a bad game because it clearly cannot be after all the sales it has had, but you cannot deny in a month of Sundays that ~60% of the sales is purely down to the marketting strategy, when you have companies like microsoft marketing your product along side their console, it IS going to sell well, even if it was the worst game ever made.

Halo is marketed as the xbox equivalent of MGS and Final fantasy, it was origonally bought by microsoft to be used to sell their console and as such got dumbed down all those years ago

I guess I moan about Halo3 as it was such a disapointment, its like being told your gonna get a car for christmas, you then get to christmas day to see a go-kart instead. a go-kart is great fun, but its just not AS fun as what you were led to believe. That then means whenever you see the go-kart you are filled with disapointment about what it 'could' have been

congrats on the number 1 spot again personally ill stick with UT3 and cod4 more finely polished and more entertaining for me

Rant on, This is coming from a former Halo fan (i've moved on).

I think Tufo was aiming at Bungies talent at making the online part the best. I have to hand it to Halo, they do have the best multiplayer setup, second to none. There "Matchmaking" has now become a standard in gaming today. They have made the the Theater, which I belive should be a standard. They also go above and beyond making the game fun. New Maps, new Gametypes, and such. They also do there best at getting the cheaters out of the games, a vast improvement from H2.

So those games you listed, are infact great games, but do their MP stand even clsoe to Halo? The only one which is in same ballpark is COD4.

ok, Half life - I admit on its own never took off hugely on the multiplayer scene. But things like counterstrike propelled it way past the halo series.

blizzard games? again make bungie look rank amateurs in comparison.

Warcraft 3 id say takes 1 of the crowns for multiplayer RTS

Diablo 2 still has thousands and thousands of people playing ~10years on and takes the crown as my fav game of all time

WoW - come on, all this game is is multiplayer, again makes halo3 look like a kids play thing. I think WoW cannot be denied to be the biggest multiplayer game available at the minute

starcraft, maybe too old for people here but comparable multiplyer to wacraft, 1 of the greats

that then takes us onto cod4, noted to be great, similar popularity to Halo3

Far cry, here I admit the multiplayer was lacking, but was such an awsome single player again 1 of my favorites

command and conquer also has a massive online community

so all in all Halo falls way behind these titles (apart from far cry) in terms of multiplayer and even further behind for single player.

as for the matchmaking, personally I hated it, 1 of the reasons why I dont play Halo3 online anymore. Bring on server lists, bring the xbox into the '21st century'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! matchmaking is like going into a bar and all you can choose between is spirit beer or wine. The actual brand is then picked randomly by the barman. its a truely hideous system.

theature I am sure its fun for some people but personally to me its a gimmick id never use

and as for map releases, you have just been persuaded by microsoft that its amazing for halo3, but then again thats just back to their marketting campaign. Now that they can gold their head up high for, 1 of if not THE best marketting campaign for a game ever.

but tbh the map debate is more a PC vs PS3 vs xbox debate more than a halo3 argument. I am truely appauled full stop! at the DLC available via live

My brother and 3 cousins all work for Bungie. I definitely have to agree that that the companies employees all pay strict attention to fine detail. Not only does Bungie have one of the finest mix of coding nerds, but their ability to understand the video game market surpasses all.
