... I got Halo Wars for my birthday, pretty disappointed. It's not a bad game really, just I have Red Alert 3 and I find it more challenging than Halo Wars. Your thoughts?

I love RTS games and own both of these. Red Alert definately is more challenging than Halo Wars and In my opinion offers more in the way of units and tactics.

As far as RTS's go, Halo Wars suck. It's mediocre at best. The only reason it's even worth playing is because of the involvement with the Halo franchise.

What you forget about Halo Wars though is that the gameplay is very simple compared to another RTSs. Everyone has a main vehicle, air, and infantry, and also three anti units and another unit. The modern RTS games out there right now keep on making the games more and more complex, like there's more strategy involved then, or something. Empire Earth (possibly one of the most complex RTSs out there) is extremely fun, but there are like 300 hotkeys and mastering the games takes hundreds of hours. Halo Wars is great because its a nice open environment very much open to strategy with the simple units they give you. There are some really deep strategies because have discovered that stun me. After I get owned by these awesome strategies I always try them out myself. For example, I was playing party mode on 3v3 yesterday and the enemy sent 9 Spartans at us really early, whom jacked 9 of our scorpions (we were all forge), and wrecked havoc the rest of the game, destroying all of our bases before we could even respond.

I'm just saying, don't insult the game because its so simple. Halo Wars deserves a good spot in the RTS titles.

Halo wars had a simple RTS that worked on xbox...shame it didnt last very long.
I would have bought it even if it wasnt halo, but to me the Alpha video was better than the finished product.

I don't think that Halo Wars was simplified to the point where it's a detriment to the game. I just finished the solo campaign a couple of days ago. It turned out to be more feature rich and sophisticated than I expected. I love how Halo Wars showcases the Halo universe really well. I like all the new vehicles and things that weren't in the FPS games. The main improvement it could stand is to have more missions. It could be better on a computer, but it turned out great for a console RTS game. I really like the multiplayer game too. I find the Halo Wars multiplayer to be a lot more interesting than FPS multiplayer, which is brain dead. FPS multiplayer is rather boring because there is no intellectual challenge to it. It's just eye hand coordination and fast reflexes. I think that's why there are a lot of kids playing FPS multiplayer. They have the quick coordination but no intellect. I think Halo Wars is supposed to be the best RTS for the xbox 360 thus far.

I'd recommend Red Alert 3 if you can pick it up cheap and LOVE RTS games. I dont think any of my friends that have minimal interest in RTS' like playing them on consoles.
