i love it......lots of time involved too, so you definitely get your money worth, although its not one of those games that holds much value so you should probably finish it and get what gamerpoints you can out of it then trade it in asap....at least thats my plan.......i started disc 4 tonight and hoping to have it finished before thursday, even though there are tons of achievements i havent got yet

Every review I have read has under scored it. I think its because they rushed through it, didn't read the dreams and probably got about half the time if not less than what there actually is.
This is my first JRPG and I love it. I thought the fighting system would throw me off, but its actually a lot better than a hack and slash IMO. You need to think more than pull triggers. The story is great, easily the best story told that I've played. The graphics are nice, even brilliant in some cutscenes. You think your watching a movie. There is a lot of reading at times, if you can see past that, your fine. I agree with timstone, their isn't much replay value. The most 'replay' you can get out of it is when you get to disk 4. I'm not their yet, but from what I understand you can go back to all locations from previous disks and go back and get what you missed. Thats about it for replay. I would not fly through it though to get maximum replay value. You need to pay attention to the story because if you don't, you might get lost.
If you never played a JRPG before, I would rent it. I bought it and it was a risk. If you do rent it or buy it, the first 1-2 hours are slow, from their it picks up. It gets really intense from the 3rd disk. I've got about 28 hours in it and I'm on the 3rd disk. When I get to the fourth, I will go back to all locations and search everything throughly.

I can't speak for DMC4, but LO got shafted on the ratings, 8/10 maybe even 9/10 people will tell you that.
Like I said before I think it got bad and decent ratings because; they did not have enough time to do everything in the game, too much text to read, and not a big enough fan base for these type of RPG games. If it was a hack and slash, western RPG, it probably would have gotten more ratings.
A great example of this is Oblivion. I love this game and so does every magazine/website that rated it. It had a good story, little to no text to read, free roam, and hack and slash. I loved the story and the free roam, however, the battles killed it for me. It was just too easy. Right trriger, right trigger, left trigger, repeat. LO is not free roam which probably made it boring to some reviewers, but its not too linear as some games either. The sotry is a lot better than Oblivion IMO and the fighting system is better. You need to think sometimes. Thats a little hard for some.
Many people do not like JRPG games and are close minded to western RPGs. Every review company should have people that specialize i each type of game genre to get the best reviews possible.
IMHO from what I've come across, people that don;t like this game, can't follow the story. Thats what this game is about.

its a sweet rpg
if your not an rpg guy, its prolly not for you
it creates a really in depth storyline which is fun to follow along but sometimes it gets boring watching videos, (you can skip them but then its like whats the point yknow?)
its great IMO
