So I've gotten to the point where I've taken command of the Normandy and I have to say... it's kind of weird how I've just met this Wrex guy and the C-Sec Turian and they're suddenly part of my crew.

I mean, at least the one lady with the pilgramage and floatilla thing going on had a cut scene that explained how she wanted to be a part of the mission. The C-Sec Turian... I guess I can kinda see his angle. He talked about why he came on board when I talked to him down below. I still think it's kind of an awkward thing that he just shows up and bang, he's part of the crew. But he's got an in at least. The one I really don't understand though is Wrex. He was just some thug at the Citadel who was supposed to be helpful in taking down Fist. What does he have to do with Saren and why in the world would I want some random thug on my ship?

Maybe it's 'cause I've stuck with Ashley and Kaidan through the entire game and didn't switch to the other two, but it's just weird.

You get the option to shoot wrex dead later on in the game, I wouldn't worry too much.

Wrex has a small story relating to Saren that you have to talk to him to hear. It doesn't open any quests or anything like that, but is mainly filler. Overall though, he was just hired to help you take down Fist (a mutual agenda) and wound up sticking along for the ride.
