Have you not played Mercenaries before? Why would it count towards the achievements? Twenty airstrikes are confirmed, you use them to aid you during missions. 
For example, if too many enemies were present, simply deploy an airstrike to clear the area.

Yeah I played the one on the PS2 and I loved it. I just couldn't quite get my head round what it was that was being explained lol
I get what you mean now though, and I quite like the concept. I can imagine that the game is going to be alot harder then, seeing as though they are giving you a certain number of airstrikes

It sure is, more so than Halo. 
Deploying nukes from anywhere, any time, and watching them obliterate buildings from a far, could it get any better?

They don't give you a certain number of airstrikes, as long as you have the cash to pay for them, you can have as many as you want, you have twenty different airstrikes in total to choose from.

Just about everything, a much improved colour pallete, a much deeper storyline, incredible explosions / graphics, more vehicules / airstrikes, different factions, physics - tree's catching fire, and spreading - forest fires!
I'll report back with specifics.
