Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe Reviewed
MORTAL KOMBAT VS DC UNIVERSE REVIEWED
I will admit that I was reluctant to give Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe a chance. Not being a huge fan of fighting games, I was getting bored and just apathetic in general, of the every couple of year rehash of a game that has not really changed much over the years. Okay, I loved doing the fatalities and so forth just like any blood thirsty gamer thrives to see, but the last few MK titles have just bored me in general.
So when this one came out, I was slow to put it in my queue at Gamefly. I am not sure if you would call it fate but despite having 13 other games in front of it in the queue, I was sent this game over many others that I was really looking forward to playing. Of course, being an experienced Gamefly user, I am aware that it is not uncommon for them to send you a game no matter what place it holds in your queue. Anyway, back to the review.
After having it at my house for over a week I popped this badboy in and low and behold I was interested. There was a story mode. That was the first thing I checked out because I had never known MK to have real stories in their games before. Okay, I will admit that the story is not going to win any awards but its enough to keep you entertained for a little while. The Audio/Visual experience is top notch. It is a very nice game to look at, especially the enhancements to all the female characters, if you know what I mean. I even like the additions of Free Fall mode and Klose Kombat, although they are hard to figure out at first.
After playing the story mode for a while, I decided to check out some of the other features such as the Kombo Challenges. I have seen training modes in these games before but I really liked this. Yeah, it gets frustrating after you get to more than 3 or 4 moves at a time but its a very patient mode that allows you to go at your own speed. I would almost recommend playing the Kombo Challenges exstensively before you play online. If you can master the Kombo's then you will have no problem dominating some of the online competition.
Lastly, there is the Arcade mode which is basically how we all remember the past Mortal Kombat games. I have not really played this mode very much but I will. The re-playability of this game is really good and the latter half of the achievements are quite challenging.
Overall, I have really enjoyed my experience with this game. I could see myself purchasing a $20 or $30 used copy but not paying a full $50 or $60.
GRADE: 8/10
