But, people don't want to buy that type of music. Also, that's a very select type of rap music. These guys aren't middle class people. They are poor. They know violence and drugs so, they rap about it in order to come up. Would you rather they rap about that and be able to get away from that sort of life, or not rap about it and be stuck in the machine.

Look around you Norse, everything in popular culture is filled with violence, drugs, and sex, and it's been that way for a while. Chances are some of your favorites movies encourage the exact same behavior.

Sure, but rappers actually think it's COOL, what they do, which is crime, and that isn't.
And if anyone is getting them a bad rep, it's themselves. They certainly aren't helping it by getting arrested every few weeks.
i.e, I'd understand if they rapped about such things from a point of view of wanting to avoid them or move beyond them, but alot of rappers seem to TAKE PRIDE in their criminal backgrounds.

I kind of agree with Norse... all i listen to is Hip Hop, and this is where people come from, and that's what they rap about. Even those who actually become successful still rap about the same things violence, w/e--i'm not against it (rap, and w/e derogatory themes people dislike about it) because it's like selling out. Just cause you've got the money, and out of the hood. I see what he's saying, but that's the way it is--it aint changin.

Kids about to blow up. Heard him on a couple Green Lantern mixes now, he'll be big. A NYC version of Lupe.

Don't know about hip-hop really.. as I'm a tea drinking Uk'er... but rap is for the weak of society imo. I can't help but laugh due to slight disgust at what rappers 'sing' about.
'I'm a big hard man I smoke weed every day and have a bunch of hoes... I'M HARRDDD INNIT!
Sad fuckers.

Yes that is what I mean ^
That isn't to say there aren't a handful of rap songs I like, but I just don't understand why they choose the lyrics that they do.
Although personally I prefer music over songs

A lot of the mainstream rappers choose they lyrics they do because it sells, just like movies put in hot women and lots of action. It's a form of entertainment, not a call to action.

Then I suppose that says alot about our people, doesn't it?
Unfortunately, however, many people do treat it as a call to action, especially little ten year olds on Xbox Live who pump up their music and spam the N word and, well, I don't even know what else.
