Music is dead, especially hip hop.
Is it just me or is theire sombody newly famous everytime you turn on mtv? Not even just hip hop. But i remember back in the day when you turned on trl and 106&park and you could name EVERY single person who came on. Our days they give anybody who wheres baggy pants a contract. What would the retired artists and dead artist say about this? What about the ones still out? what do they think?
And to be perfectly honest, i blame this shit on myspace. Everybody with 10,000 friends and a song on theire page makes a fucking music video and it's on TRL 2 weeks later.
is this just me? what do you guys think?
I got to say, Nas Said it best. "hip-hop is dead"

Just because you don't enjoy listening to what the mainstream crowd does doesn't mean music is dead, it's just currently different from your tastes. I'm sure for some people music is at it's peak right now, it's all a matter of opinion.

x2, just because your style isnt on the radio doesnt mean its not being made anymore, you just have to find it. Furthermore, you cant blame any artist (i know you didnt), blame the consumers who are cranking dat soulja boy, music is a business, supply and demand.

It's not that music is dead....you've just come to the realization that what is mainstream these days isn't your thing. To be perfectly honest, I haven't paid attention to MTV (Mostly Trash Viewing) in 15+ years. In addition, most of the music award shows are full of people that I don't recognize, don't like and don't buy. But in no way am I criticizing the music that is mainstream....it's just not my mainstream...and that's ok.
I've been a metalhead for 20+ years. My mainstream music has never been the defacto standard or immensely popular in mainstream media....but it's going as strong as ever and there is tons of great stuff out there.
As far as what's mainstream these days, I guess the test of time will be whether these "artists of today" are still around and still popular with their fans 20 years down the road. I listen to quite a number of bands that have been around for 20-30 years in the metal world and are still putting out music and still have fans worldwide. My gut tells me that most of the "overnight sensations" these days simply won't stand the test of time. But for many of the artists, I'm sure the drive is simply the money, fame and fortune that comes with it. They probably don't care if it only lasts for 5 years...as long as it occurs and affords them a huge "crib" on MTV.

The only thing which is "future proof" is DEATH. Did I mention, I absolutely hate the use of the term "future proof".

Okay but what about the 87568509860698 people who are famous for no reason? seriously, The Pussy Cat Dolls? wtf? Only one of them sings, no that she can't sing but whats with the other like, 7? the rest just wear mini skirts.
I see what you guys are saying about it changing, but a lot of the artists from the 90's have changed their shit too. why in gods name is Eminem harminizing in 80% of his song hooks? it makes no sense.
