Swallow The Sun - My intro into the slower side of metal
Any Swallow the Sun fans? Or perhaps Doom Metal fans in general?
I picked up a copy of Hope a few days ago. It's amazing...moving, powerful, beautiful, slow but yet still pure metal.
I've never heard anything like it. It's the first metal I've listened to that doesn't make get me hyped up or pissed.
I can't recommend it enough, well worth the $15. Pretty much each song is capable of giving me chills.

I was never a big fan of doom/gloom metal. I do, however, like Type O Negative... their early "thrash-ish" stuff, and Bloody Kisses and October Rust. I used to listen to a lot of My Dying Bride as well, but it's not really my cup o' tea.

My Dying Bride and Swallow the Sun are compared pretty often, from what I've read Swallow the Sun is better regarded than My Dying Bride. So if you did like My Dying Bride before, you may like Swallow the Sun.
I've been told their earlier albums are a bit heavier and faster with more prominent vocals so I'm looking to check it out too.
btw, HIM calls themselves Love Metal. Some of their stuff does have gothic influences though and Doom Metal can sound Gothicy at times but I won't go as far as saying Swallow the Sun sounds gothicy.

Aye, The Morning Never Came is one of my favourite albums of my collection.
I'm really into Doom Metal, like Candlemass, November's Doom, Wormphlegm, diSEMBOWELMENT, Cathedral, Earth, Pagan Alter, Sunn O))) and Therion's older stuff I guess.

How does The Morning Never Came compare to Hope? What are the differences?
