I personally love it. I played Melee all the time, and loved it too. I don't get why people complain about a new game being similar to an old game in the series...I mean, DUH, of course it will be similar! Smash Bros. is a side view fighter game where you pick from a list of Nintendo characters and use A and B to do moves...same way it has been since N64. That's a tried and true formula. Why would it even NEED change? For the Wii (which has probably the equivalent of a Radeon 8000 or 9000 series while the 360 has the equivalent of a Radeon HD), the graphics are great. I don't notice as many polygon edges as I did in previous games, and the new physics engine is nice. Final smash is awesome, and the story mode is pretty good.
The only disappointments to me are:
Online....Nintendo will never get this one right, not with their parent-pleasing noncommunication nonsense. I agree that Xbox Live beats Nintendo WFC in every way possible...EXCEPT for price!
Stage Builder....It's nice, but it's like the Tony Hawk park editors...you're limited to 1 "block" of memory when the system can A: draw more objects and B: save larger files (SD Cards Anyone?!?!?)
Other than those flaws, Brawl is incredible, and it has a great soundtrack too (downloaded all the music from it before its release, burned a CD of my favorite songs and listened to it while we were waiting at GameStop at midnight).

Thank you! Someone in this thread who actually appreciates this game! Even though it has a few flaws the great gameplay makes you overlook that stuff.

First of all calm.
Second of all: Online sucks, it's a start, but compared to LIVE and PSN which I have had plenty of access to, it's a joke.
Third of all: What sequel doesn't have new maps?
Fourth of all: You can design your own levels, but no one's gonna want to play on them and I doubt my kids want to spends hours polishing a level they want everyone to play on.
Fifth of all: You are saying basically that the wii (whom many people say it's more powerful than gamecube) cannot create graphics that a game made SIX YEARS ago on a gamecube? my expectations were never high in the first place, but even if the wii was as powerful as a gamecube, it should at least sport visuals a lot better that a game made six years ago. Look at the launch games for xbox and ps2 and the games made later on for it. Look at launch games for 360 and look at them now; there's a BIG difference whereas brawl is just a slight polish.
Sixth of all: I wanted maybe a new mode or something else other than the basic brawl, half-assed campaign, target smash, 100-events, Home-run contest, and other stuff that we've all had before in melee. It all feels exactly the same. Maybe they should've added some new Home-run contest-ish minigames or some basketball game or a race or something. There's a reason why madden takes a lot of flak every year, it's because it's basically a roster update and brawl is basically a roster update too.

The detail on this game is sick compared to Melee. I'm impressed. The only flaw this game has is the online.

I can agree with the online part, because Nintendo WFC is pretty bad compared to Live.
However, why do you think it needs new game modes? They added a long story mode and updated the characters and items.
I'm sorry, but you must not have eyes or something...Brawl's graphics are much smoother than Melee's. Want some screenshots to prove? I got some:
I took the same scene (Mario vs Link in Pokemon Stadium) in both games:
Compare:
The difference is clear. Point proven, the end.
