New Wii online user, what to expect?

So my brother is bringing his Wii up to my place on Saturday and have never connected it online before. He wants to buy a card at walmart or something to download some games.

Anyway, what should I expect to have to go through hooking it up online? I assume it's ethernet connected like the xbox, it isn't wireless is it?

Is there a lot of BS signup stuff to do like on the xbox or is it kinda just go and play?

Anything I should be aware of before doing so?

I assume his browser or whatever on the wii is still from the factory, what updates should we see after connecting online?

Yeah its wireless, AND it is go and play..

It may ask for an update but don't worry about that.

I love my Wii. Here are some answers for you..

1) The Wii has no ethernet port on board unless you buy a separate hardware adapter. It has a wireless card built in that can connect to any standard wireless router.

2) The wii console will ask for an update most likely when you connect it, it shouldn't take long. It will be longer than a 360 update, but not terribly long.

3) There is no INTERNET BROWSER built into the Wii, it costs 5 dollars (it was free for a time, but now it has to be bought). I assume you meant the "dashboard."

4) It is very easy to connect and to go DL games. Just go to the Wii SHOP CHANNEL from your dashboard.

5) To play Wii games online with friends, you must use the friend code system.

It sucks that it's not free anymore, but when it was free, it was a PROMOTION, that's all. They never mislead ppl to believe it would stay free.

Well I was under the impression the browser on the wii and ps3 were to make the 360 look bad but if they are gonna charge they're not as cool as everyone thought. Whatever tufo I just don't think it is fare that they felt the need to charge for it now, I'm just complaining though I got the browser (that I never use) back when it was free.

ROFL, yea, it sucks, but they announced it heavily, so it's no surprise. That's why it's hilarious to me that you would get upset. I mean, it's not Nintendo's fault you didn't read the press releases or any of the news about the browser back when it was a big deal, lol.
