cannot steal the diary back. Bug?

Ok, so i started the task to try to steal the diary to get into the thieves guild. Methredel got to the diary before me, so my map keeps pointing me to her chest in her house, but the diary is never there, even when the green pointer says that it is. i cant pickpocket her, and its been over a week(in game time) and she still has not returned the diary to the silver fox, so i cannot get the 2nd quest to get into the thieves guild. am i doing something wrong or is this a bug?

hopefully you saved before you took that quest! what i would do in your case, is load before that quest and re-do it. this time, beat her to it and WIN! other than that, good luck, ive never been in that pickle....

nope, didnt save before that quest. stupid bugs. shouldnt have to worry about this crap in a game worth 70 euros. freakin rediclious. is there a patch or a code i can enter to resolve this?

No patch or code, you are playing the 360 version yes? If your playing the Pc version then i think you can do codes & patch's but not on the 360. yeh this was a bugger on a mission, it bugged on me too, Have you found her? try to find her & keep trying to pickpocket her, thats all i can suggest, if you haven't saved! Also i dont know what happens if you kill her, try that if all else fails!

cant kill her as she's integral to the game plot. spent about 4 hours last night trying to pickpocket her but to no avail. she always catches me. you can knock her on conscious, steal the diary, but then i get arrested as she shouts. might come back and do that part when i finish the rest of the game.
if i get arrested with the diary on me, and its taken by the guards, where does it go, or how do i get it back?

Knock her out, take the diary, run like hell, then place the diary where you can find it. Then turn yourself in.

Save before you do i though and also become accustomed to saving since there are a few bugs in the game and just incase you die or anything.

tell us if you succeed, i had to get the diary from her but i did not have your problem.

Wait, I'm confused.

So you're able to get the diary but you keep getting caught? Is it on her, or is it in her chest?

Well when you get arrested chose to pay & they will take to the prisons once there you will end up just outside, go back inside & ask the guard sitting at the desk to visit a prisoner when he leaves, on the right of the room there is a box on the floor, lockpick it & you will get all your stuff back including the book! i would of thought!
