Why only 1200 or 1600 gold with merchants?

So is there a way to get more gold for an item that is worth more than wut the merch has? (i.e. Escutcheon of Chorrol - 17,500 gold) Do you have to be a master of mercantile, cuz i do notice in the loading screens it says that merchants have more gold with a master of mercantile?

The higher skill level a merchant is, the higher the limit will be. I forget what the highest price is, but you'll never get more than 2000 bucks in a single selling transaction. And just a hint, one way to boost your merchantile skill is create a spell that increases your merchantile skill by about 50 or so for 5 seconds. And then create a touch spell that boosts the disposition of the merchant by 100 points for 10 seconds. Use both of these spells and you'll get optimal results every time you deal with a merchat.

yea, i just recently made a "Legendary Haggler" spell that fortifies mercantile and personality by 100 pts on self, and charms 100 pts on touch (found in a spells guide on gamefaqs ). and i just got to the point where i can invest, but 1700 is the most and since i decided to return the Honor Blade of Chorrol i lost Fathyes Ulien (or wutever his name is from the thieves guild), but in theroy he would have been 2100 . thanx anyways guys
