A lot of the time in Half-Life 2 you're solving puzzles and exploring the enviroment. I wouldn't call it a survival game but it's definitely not your typical constantly-holding-down-the-trigger shooter. And yes, throughout Half-Life 2 and both episodes you get to fight the Striders quite a few times
