1 bullet spare

I looked through the achievements for half life 2 ep 1 and theres a achievement if you beat the game shooting only 1 bullet, but rockets, grenades, crowbar, and gravity gun was allowed. And the only bullet your allowed to use is in the dark room where you need to open a lock with the shotgun but i beat the game without shooting another bullet and didn't get achievement. Throughout the whole game i hid behind Alex, used gravity gun, grenades, or killed everyone with rockets, and also used the grenade launcher from the assault rifle. Was it the grenade launcher that fucked me over?

Yeh i also went through it, apart from one bit were i took control of a mounted Gun (I forgot! ) & so i thought Whatever, i may as well just use my guns now!
But saying that, i went through Ravenholm only using my grav-gun But i still didnt get the achievment!???

You were not meant to use the shotgun to shoot off the lock. You were meant to use the handgun. If you look at the achievement it specifically says one bullet. Shotguns fire shells not bullets. I know that's pedantic but I think that's all it comes down to. It also specifically says you can use Rockets, Grenades, and the crow bar (as well as the gravity gun). You can't use the grenade launcher on the assault rifle. That would also be a very likely reason.

You don't get the achievement until you are into the daylight and the next level name starts. I don't know if you waited until then or not. I walked out of Ravenholm like "What the F#ck!!! I carried this wall heater around for nothing...So I kept going and didn't change from my gravity gun.... then it popped up after a minute.
But ya, either way that sucks...The same thing happened in Dead Rising when I was going for the Genocide achievement...I add this because it sucks when you just miss an achievement or get screwed out of it.

Cheers for that! yeh i didnt do that! its bloody annoying, I think that may of happened to the achievment that you get, for not putting one foot on the sand! i did that one, but it still didnt give it to me! Took me ages to get across aswell. Well if i want them at least i can go back to those very levels & try for them again eh!

Is this true? I didn't think you could get the pistol before you use your one bullet to get into the room?

Im pretty sure I got the pistol before the shotgun. Use your Gravity Gun to break any locks. If I remember correctly the pistol is behind a fence so just pull on it and drag it out over top of the broken part of the fence.

You dont need to shoot any bullets to get into the room with the pistol.

That's the room where you have to use your 1 bullet, right? but anyway.

I just got the achievment on my first play through, used the shotgun as my one bullet, but also used a mounted turret, so they don't count. Just incase anyone was wondering.
