The story so far... *spoilers*

Just finished Episode 2. I'll play the main Half life 2 later since I already finished on PC. But it seems they touched up the visuals a bit. So how'd you guys enjoy it? Personally it's my favorite story in any shooter. A lot of the background information can be obtain through the detail of the world itself, such as newspaper clippings and even through the graffiti, characters are very realistic, and I just can't wait for episode 3. Voice acting is also very convincing.

SPOILERS:

The ending of Episode 2 was very sad, especially right after the warm thank you from Eli about everything and how you could be like a son to him. Then the combine monster thing just rushes in for what seems no apparent reason and suck the brains out of him.

What are some of your theories on what could happen in episode 3? What's so important about that Borealis ship? Could it contain the portal gun from Aperture Science? Hmmm.

I loved the ending...waiting for more.
As for episode 3; from what I gathered from Portal is that Aperture and Black Mesa were rival portal companies...If you think back on it that is what the original HL was about...you making that portal that connected both dimensions. I didn't think back on this until I finished HL2 ep2, it all kind of clicked for me...Then you also have the portal stuff in HL2, with the time travel portal among others. They truly have put genius together.

On the Borealis ship there is Aperture logo {I believe} so it would make sense that you would come across the gun.
I love Alex...she's so bashful and human.

Apeture and Black Mesa were rival research companies. There will probably be a portal gun or something on the ship. Anyone have any idea when this is coming out? Or is Valve's latest word still winter '07 (they have obviously missed this deadline). And will it be DLC? Or is everyone else in the dark like I am?

Nope. Valve is usually late on game releases. But I still love them for making the best value ever. They always include so many games in their packages, especially on the PC.

If I remember correctly, Aperture Science started out as a shower curtain maker? From that knowledge I have really no idea what's in that Borealis ship that's so important since we do not know when it was lost.

Also take note Episode 3 will be the end of the current story arc but not the final Half-Life game.

edit: One more thing I forgot to mention is the mysterious "G-Man". Eli said that he saved Alyx, for his own reason, from that I can say Alyx is going to play a bigger role in the story now. It was also G-Man I believe who took the crystal for experiment at Black Mesa in Half Life 1. From there he told Eli to "Beware for Unforeseen Consequences" twice now. I can already smell a big plot twist coming from the G-Man in Episode 3...

Here's an old video of the Borealis map that was cut out before the release of HL2.

YouTube - Borealis, the beginning.

Lmao, there was so much reason for the Combine Advisor to suck the brains out of Eli. He was one of the leading rebels to start with, and a huge enemy to both the combine and Breen who has already escaped them once thanks to Gordon. Im sure thats only the beginning, with the info Eli revealed about his relationship with the G-Man there might be so much more that makes him a primary target (or, that made him a primary target - rather).

Umm...not exactly. This is the Half Life: Missing Information user created mod. Its just a fan-made mod compiling all the stuff that was found in a leaked version of HL2. Theres no reason to believe that this was created by Valve, I think the focus was supposed to be on models and weapons (which were clearly done by Valve), not the map itself.

I dont think Gordon will find the portal gun on the Borealis. And unless all the Aperture Science stations have linked databases, I dont think Gordon will find any info on portal gun on the Borealis. If he does find the actual gun, I think its going to be on land under a ton of rubble where one of the Aperture Science labs was destroyed. Otherwise they will just use portal information found on the Borealis to help deepen the story, but we may not actually see the portal gun in Ep3 (Valve did say they want to keep it out of HL, even if its in the same universe - then again that was a while ago).

My main wish is for a conclusion with the G-Man story. I want to know what he's been up to, his relation to Gordon, and what he's going to do...even what exactly he does and who he works for (if anyone). Although they may not give all the answers since they plan on having a Half-Life 3 (which wont be by the same development team apparently).

Whats important about the Borealis ship is that it contains advanced portal technology which is what both the rebels and the combine are striving to obtain. If the rebels gain this technology before the combine they have a high probability of winning the war.

The rebels are already in the process of making superior portal technology, with the work of Aperture Science they could be even better off. Aperture Science (as Im sure you know) was Black Mesa's top competitor, and before disappearing were on top of their game and ahead of Black Mesa in terms of portal technology. So the discovery of this ship could spin the combine on their heads.

I hope they have levels in Xen again in either Episode 3 or HL3.

Even if it's just a brief visit. It'd be great! I wonder if they'll upgrade the Source engine or even make a new engine for any other Half-Life games after Episode 3.
