portal gold challenges

Hi,
I have had this game for a while now, done all the advanced maps etc.

I am now looking at the challenges, I am finding bronze/silver easy enough but the gold are driving me insane, I keep getting the feeling they are designed for mouse+keyboard. i.e. the 1st challenge lvl for least portals, the only way I can possible see to get down to 4 portals is to throw the cube yet it doesnt seem to go far enough even with controller sensitivty at max :/

I would like to add I did this level with ease on my brothers PC version of the game.

I am wondering if people have had similar problems and if they have manged to get around them?

P.S. I am NOT looking for solutions, the whole point of this game is to work out how to complete lvls, i dont wanna ruin it by getting the answers hehe

yeah, i'm having difficulty with them as its a joypad instead of keyboard and mouse.

i watched the walkthroughs at Portal Walkthroughs - Video Guides to Completing All Portal Levels and it seems that they can go from A to B in 1 or 2 steps which takes me a minimum of 3/4 steps.. its pissing me off!!!!

I'm a few months late on replying for this but your right; you need to throw the box... I tried this forever until I figured out that if you use one of the buttons it throws the box a little farther {don't remember which one}.

I need to get the game back from my friend so I can finish these; I finished the least portals a while ago, but now I'm working on fewest steps...
