What am I missing here? (Team Fortress)
I played this today for the first time (yeah, I know.....) and honestly don't see what the hype is about... It was kind of quirky and certainly different from most MP games, but I was left feeling uninspired to say the least.
What am I missing here, where is all the hype coming from?

Hi man,
I think the key to Team Fortress 2 is this - You need to play it a good 10-20 times on different maps, different characters/classes. It's one of those games where you need to learn the 6 different maps first and foremost. Before you learn the basic layout and the basics of the 9 classes I can see why people may seem uninterested/uninspired.
Trust me, I have owned all the old school MP games (Halo 3, COD4, Unreal Tourney, Bad Company etc etc), and I still think that TF2 is up there if not better than all these, but ONLY once you sort of master the classes and maps.
And then the real fun begins!

Yeah, I can definitely see that. I do plan on trying it out a few more times before I give up on it completely. It's just from first impressions, well... there wasn't one, really. Some games grab you right from the get-go, like UT3, and COD2 and 4 did. This one may take a bit more.

Yes mate, once you get used to the Maps, shortcuts etc you will reap the rewards. I can spend many an hour on TF2 and the beautiful thing is every game is different.
Enjoy!

Why is the learning curve/fun factor curve so steep on a wacky game like that? LOL

It's not the learning curve... the game is pretty easy to pick up and play even if you have only a passing interest in mp games. It's not that it was bad... it was just very mediocre. Just my opinion of course, which is why I started this thread, I wanna see why other people regard it so highly.

Honestly I love TF2. I played the original team fortress classic back in the day and this just opened up a whole other experience to one of my favorite classic games. I like this game because each class plays a specific role in the game. Each character has its own weapons and by mastering each class you learn the game and how to manipulate it to your advantage. (what other FPS Multiplayer game can you be a spy and dress like the opposing team and have them never know you are on the opposite team?) It is an extremely fun game when you have a large group of friends on your team or at least people who can have a sense of humor and like to regularly talk on the mic. After playing a while you will learn what characters you need on your team to succeed in each battle. The game is also captivating to me because it is really cartoony. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE crisp graphics and realistic game play, but at the same time i also love a cartoon game that can incorporate gore and FPS violence in an all new and almost comical way. Honestly i think to fully appreciate the game you need to play it on PC. I have the game for both Xbox360 and PC and i can tell you first hand that the game play experience is totally different from the console to the PC. The Xbox360 seems to only show you a small portion as to what this game has to offer. Cheers.

The graphics were actually one of the biggest reasons that I wanted to play the game. It's such an original style and look.
