from what i've read, g.skill is decent ram. though, i'd always recommend something with micron chips(not sure what g.skill uses). that's the only reason i got the mushkin xp2, plus it has a slightly lower latency. 8800 should be good. i'd recommend buying with the intent of not using sli. that way you have the option open later. so if you want to sli gtx's, just get one ultra. i got an ultra cuz it was only $80 more than the gtx. the price on the quad-core cpu's are too good to not recommend. though the fastest e6X50 you can afford is a fine chip. most people can't bring themselves to pay the price/gb, but i like my raptor. other than the raptor, just raid0 a couple smaller drives for your os. wd and hitachi are nice. and the case. i'm recommending to everybody i talk to the antec p180 or p182. they're just amazing. the layout, build quality, and look is all top notch. flimsy aluminum cases blow and are loud. and though it's classified as a medium sized case, it is large and has plenty of room. i have a 8800 ultra and a ultra120ext heat sink, all fit fine. and you didn't mention it, but don't skimp on a power supply. ocz, seasonic, and pc power/cooling are all nice. also not mentioned, a mobo. if your planning on upgrading that also. the p35's are probably the best(stability and performance), as of now. the gigabytes are fastest, abits layed out the best and probably next fastest, asus inconcistently fastest here and there, but has a ton of features.

does a pc not count as "other game console"? i think it does, which is why he posted that question in this forum. how's that a problem? do you go in the ps3 and wii forums and tell them to go join other sites?
i'm just curious.

i would NOT recommend striping 2 drives together in a RAID0 as suggested above. With a stripe, you essentially put 1/2 of the data on 1 drive and the other half of the data on the other drive. However, if either of the 2 drives fails you lose everything.
RAID0 is great when you are moving around massive files on your system. Like video editing or such. However, for video game playing...it doesn't actually lead to any increased performance. I timed my machine in the past with games such as Doom3, Battlefield2, Half Life 2, and the RAID0 config led to absolutely no performance increase whatsoever over a stand alone drive. But, if I were to copy a 4GB ISO file from C:\folder1 to C:\folder2...the difference was almost 3 to 1. <----But considering that I would rarely do that, the extra speed was NOT WORTH the INCREASED RISK of losing everything due to hard drive failure.
If you want the fastest hard drive speeds possible, get a 10,000RPM western digital raptor. If you want the next best thing for a lot less cost, get a perpendicular recording Seagate 7200.10.
