Here's my theory: They release a smaller version of the GBA before the holidays so that the parents/relatives buy these things for the children in the family because they have no idea what it is. It's not like some old grandma would say, "Oh, little Johnny doesn't need that thing because he already has a handheld that plays GBA games, and they have bad graphics!"

Just yesterday I was in Gamestop and some kid brought in his DS to trade in for the Micro. He didn't realize it only played GBA games and anything before that. He thought it played a bunch of new types of games. I just couldn't believe he was going to trade in his DS for basically a GBA.
