Im very surprised they havent done this already, and im sure it isnt that hard to do, becuase you can download free emulators for Ps and PS2 so you can play PS games on PC already, including sege megadrive and Snes games etc.

It wouldn't be done through hardware, it would all be software. It really wouldn't be that hard, however Microsoft would have to make it subscription based outside of your normal live fees because dedicated servers are not cheap. I work for a hosting company and I know what rackspace and connections to OC-48s cost.
If I felt the game was worth it I would consider it, but I haven't really played one to this day that caught my attention. The closest I have played that has held my attention was EVE and after three weeks of that I was done.
Now an EVE style game on the 360 would be pretty sweet IMO.

Can they not make a dedicated server that you connect to just like WoW?

There is so much bad info in this thread my head is about to explode.
Fat Shaft XBL doesn't have dedicated servers.
Microsoft doesn't make the dedicated servers. The developer of the MMORPG does, this is why FFXI has a monthly fee just like every other good MMORPG on the market.
FFXI has been out for 3 years on the 360, and some of you guys try to sound like developers are figuring out some groundbreaking way to put MMOs on the 360. It's been done already, and it's not any different than PC.
There is absolutely no reason why future MMOs shouldn't come out on consoles, there are no drawbacks at all.
Xbox 360 can't support that many players, plus WOW would be better on the pc.
Nice post DK, informing the crowd as always. Like I said, Microsoft doesn't host the servers, the developer does. The 360 has no problem at all connecting to those servers, Square Enix has been doing it for 3 years like I said before.
mouse and keyboard > controller for one thing
That's not true, on a lot of MMOs (excluding WoW) people actually buy a controller to play with. The only reason this doesn't work well with WoW is because their interface wasn't designed with the controller in mind.

He's right, and don't try to think otherwise.
theres other issues too, but thats a major one
No, there are no other issues.
The biggest reason why WoW or other PC MMORPG'S havent been on 360, is because of connectivity issues and lag. Have you played Two Worlds?.
Bassically WoW is run by dedicated servers, servers that just run the game 24hours a day, really fast, excellent connections etc etc.
The problem with 360 is that people have to setup their own servers, so not only do they Host the games, but they are playing it at the same time which = 5x more Connection usage.
You seem to think that every game has to go through Xbox Live, it doesn't. You understand how dedicated servers work, so now all you have to do is realize that it works the same way on the 360 as on the PC.
Why don't we have our own servers like the PC guys do then?
We do. Final Fantasy 11 is hosted on SE's dedicated servers and you can interact with PS2/PS3/PC players on the 360. It's not different than being on a PC. Another example of this in the future is Huxley, but it won't be fully interactive with the PC players.
They would have to make a brand new type of xbox/or xbox type machine to run dedicated servers but i bet they wont bother with that,

You're thinking too hard. I'll say it again, they do it the same way the PC developers do it.

Warhammer Online might possibly come out on xbox 360, it was demonstared on 1 a while ago. But you probably wont play with PC users. The reason they gave for this was the 360 communities inexperience with MMORPGs. This would also require a vastly simpler GUI compared to wow.
you ask why not put wow on xbox, because it wouldnt sell because it would be a pain on a gamepad. When I played I used over 50 buttons for various hotkeys, and then the mouse for much more. i.e. I had spells on 1-0 and then more spells on Shift+1 - shift+5 then all spare keys around 'wsad' not used by ingame commands for the guild pane, the character screen etc for yet more abilities, each menu is based around cursur control, targetting is based around cursor control.
and to be frank, without all these keys you will be at a monumental disadvantage in pvp and no raiding guilds would even take a 2nd look at you to play the end game content.
I also dont think blizzard would do this as they have a large enough player base already and the % increase from xbox players would be tiny.
So, not impossible to have MMORPGs on xbox but certainly adds a new tricky element to game design. I also hope it doesnt happen as it will ruin PC MMORPGs as everything will be simplified. The offline RPG genre itself has been ruined for cross platform RPGs.

Why could my PS2 play Evercrack easily and it was a MMORPG? Controls obviously weren't bad to me and it was a very addictive game. So if PS2 can do it why can't 360?
*EDIT
I understand now I actually paid monthly for dedicated servers. I guess that MS wont want people to have to pay ANOTHER monthly fee to play a game. Suddenly the PS3 looks good....

No shit fuck face! But paying 50 a year then also paying 10 a month is not going to fly well, that's why free network that actually works (PS3) and 10 bucks a month looks better.
