An RPG is the only type of game that can show a scantily clad female without getting "Suggestive Themes" added to it by the ESRB...

Along with what everyone else is saying, as for the fighting system, if it's turn based it has a good amount of strategy to it...Kind of like a chess game.
RPG's usually have great customization; for instance if you like selecting the best guns or armor in COD4, or Halo 3...it's like that after injecting Berry Bonds blood.
My main reason for playing RPG’s is for the story.

Not only are RPG's some of the best games ever made,
but they involve more in-depth story following than most other games,
also they will tend to last twice as long than say a shooter. (sp wise).
I also find it more rewarding completing an RPG than a shooter.
its great.

There are different types of RPG's. Personally I love Oblivion (only RPG I've ever liked) and it's one of my favorite games of all time. In that game, there are no "magic wands in a fairy kingdom". It's in a made up place of course, and you do use magic, but it's not the same. The fighting is real-time (everything is real-time, including leveling) and there are basically no cut-scenes. Try Oblivion. It's not a "typical" RPG.
