How to fix the neck on your GH3 Les Paul

apparently a lot of these controllers have been having issues with the fret buttons randomly failing. this is due to the detachable neck, and the fact that it has some wiggle room.

there are two ways to fix this. a 'high-fi' fix which involves a torx screwdriver and some wiggling of the connector:

and a low-fi fix which simply involves rubber bands and an M3 clip:
GH III: Les Paul Low-Tech Neck Fix - GrownUpGamers.com Forums

it's BS that we should have to fix it, they should have made it work right in the first place. but if you're like me and your guitar worked perfectly fine until AFTER the return-by date expired, and are left with no choice but to do it yourself, these methods should spare you some heart-ache.

i'm going with the rubber band method, just because i'm afraid of the connector pins stabbing through the PCB.

pretty awful engineering, huh? the pin connectors are bad enough, but to leave the neck LOOSE?! wtf were they thinking? last night i lost an xbox live game i should have won because the orange button kept cutting out... that was the last straw for me. i'm not playing the game again until i get this fixed.

at least we don't have to worry about voiding the warranty by opening it up and messing around with things, because it seems there was no substantial warranty to begin with.

Ok, I just did it. (The permanent fix.)

And it is REALLY stiff, to plug the neck in, but it works a charm!! I found out I had a Torx (You need a Torx 10 or 15, not 8) in the house already!
