Depends whether the games are region locked, if they are you'll only be able to play region 1 games on it.

I read in a magazine that the PS3 will play all region games due to it being a region free console, i may be wrong though so dont take my word for it.

dunno if that counts for ps2 games tugh im not to botherd ofr movie playback as i got a 360 for my dvds and hd dvds and i dont route bluray anyhow but its ps2 stuff im worryied about

Why wouldn't you want Blu-Ray DVD's if you're going to own a PS3? It wouldn't make sense not to take advantage of that if you're going to purchase one. Just saying...
