Sony Announces 80GB PS3...for Korea

Well we have to admit, we sure didn't see this one coming. There have been rumors of a higher capacity PlayStation 3 for several months now, but no one figured that the first 80GB model would drop not in Japan or the US, but South Korea. And yet that's exactly what's scheduled to go down June 16th, when the previously-denied, Euro-spec'ed PS3 (but no 20GB or 60GB models, it seems) will hit the land of Samsung and LG for a pre-tax 518,000 won -- or just $556. While we don't want to get your hopes up, we can't help but think that this move bodes well for US consumers too; after all, the 80 gigger is already through the FCC, meaning that price drops and unimaginable storage space could be right around the corner.

but I find it a bit strange, they made iut just 20gb bigger, I mean the difference between 60 and 80 gb isnt that big

Ha good find. It's pretty pointless though, rofl. Sure 80gig is a tiny bit better, it is only 20 gig more than the 60. So people will end up buying their own harddrives anyway...

I just wanna buy one minus the HDD so I can put my own, bigger one in cheaper and not have a spare, useless drive lying around after the swap.
I know, I know, then they'd have the same problems as MS with the Core, and the limitations it provides.. But seriously, buying a HDD for a PS3 is still cheaper than buying the 360 one!

Don't really see the point, like Simon said, most people who need the extra space would buy there own anyways, but a price drop is always good to get more customers!
