how much space does a backup take? i've only got 25gb left of my 55gb cuz i've got linux on it too.

Well the Sony backup won't back up the Linux partition at all. That's controlled within Linux itself.
I can't give you an exact figure on my backup but I used about 15-20GB on my PS3 partition and it compressed to about 5GB on my USB drive. Something like that.
99% chance the update will work fine though. It's up to you.

i'll get rid of the demo's i've got on my HDD first (that should free up about 4gb) then i'll do the backup.
