Background downloads ps3?

On Xbox 360 you can enable background downloads, so that you can turn off your console but still download a large demo or something.

Is there anything you can do to do this on a Playstation 3?

You can't download when you turn your console off, on the Xbox 360, right? First I've heard of that.

But, the PS3 has a background downloader, as you probably know. But switching it off doesn't download.

No you can't download stuff when your ps3 is turned off. I'm not totally sure, but when you download something with the 360 "off" I don't think it's completely off, it's still on I think but just not running everything.
