NHL 08 Strategy Defeating the One Timer

Hey Team,

I have been jamming NHL 08 for a couple of months now. I am just getting used to the more complex controls and game engine. Unfortunatly I do not have a 360 and I only jam when I am at friends houses.

I have come into a pickle regarding the game play. I have been playing friends who literally do nothing except move the puck into the corner/side of the net, and then dish the puck to the opposite side for a one timer. These shots mostly suck but many of them are trickling in.

The result of this is I am playing and losing games in which I am continuously outplaying my opponent in terms of time on attack and shots on net. But the scoreboards very rarely reflect this dominance, as all of my games result in 1 goal victories or losses (I am playing about .500). My opponent faithfully executes this strategy EVERY OFFENSIVE RUSH. No exceptions.

I shut this strategie down in the older xbox games by hitting the ice on my belly, but the newer version of this game make that move much riskier. It is driving me mad that I cannot bust this weak strat, so I am looking for a higher level player to walk me through how to consistantly shut down this offensive strategy.

For clarity I will put up a small diagram. P= puck G= goalie R=Receiver D= Defense XXX= Net

XXX
G
P----------> R
D D

I know this is a little sketch but I think it gets the point across. Can anyone help me shut down this goal? Should I use kneel, body block, poke check? Should I have a forward in the mix? If so where should I place him?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Stop chasing the guys into the corners and behind the net.

Don't be too aggressive with your defence.

Just set your Defensive Strategies to Collapsing and the quick play to Contain puck or High Pressure... And just force the AI to make the plays while you defend the slot areas and the crease...

Wrong! I've beat a guy ranked #25 and all he did was the cheap one timer. The way I shut it down was to change my goalie who let in all the one timers then shut him down from the blue line, everytime he got near it I cranked him, got the puck back and just got mad shots on the net. It can get frustrating just try as much as you can to not let him gain the zone and open up those passes.

I'd say hit LB to go down and block the pass. Is there a way to change strategies on live?
