Never liked Rainbow 6- should I get Vegas?

I've played a couple earlier R6 games and just couldn't get into it, mostly because it seemed to have less action and eye candy and more time spent in menus tweaking things and creating strategies.

That said, the videos I've seen for R6:V had me drooling, and there is clearly some exceptional eye-candy and action going on. I'm not against strategy, but I like it to be incorporated with the action, otherwise it gets too dry for my taste (I have no patience for RTS games like the Civ series).

Is Vegas just like previous installments with next gen graphics? Or is the gameplay updated significantly as well? I'm really torn on this, because when I watch videos for it all I can think is "holy shit I want this game!". And maybe all that eye candy would be enough to keep me focused and actually learn to play a R6 game.

Is there anyone here who didn't like previous R6 games but enjoys R6:V? What do you guys think? Is it worth buying for someone like me?

I also enjoyed the first couple SS games, but then I got annoyed at the characters and the way the serious subject matter is boiled down to a Disneyesque palatability (fighting terrorists but there's no blood, cussing, or otherwise adult subject matter? it just isn't right).

The bold answers your question. Here is what you need to do: watch video reviews, read written reviews, read user reviews, and watching videos of actual gameplay, then make up your mind. Or better yet, if you have $8, go rent it.

If you have xbox live then download the demo. If not rent it if you are unsure.

The demoes are 6 months old..they do not justify the final copy. The final copy is much better.

Isn't there a new one for live? Not sure.. I quite like the game, didn't like the old ones though.

Not sure my 360 has been down for a while, but before my power supply broke I was able to play the multiplayer demo and I absolutely loved. I am like yourself, I never really liked the other Rainbow Six's but they really "re-invented the wheel" with this game.

It just depends on personal taste. Go try the demo. If you hate the demo, dont get it. If you like the demo, get it. Personally I think Rainbow Six has good single player and multiplayer.

Basically the answer is that it's the same thing as the previous ones, only different.

You don't have the strategy pages anymore. All you have to do is customize your weaponry and you're in the game. However, the structure of the game is still set up the same. You are deployed to a specific location and you have to clear out all of the terrorists, rescue the hostages unharmed or disarm the bomb while fending off your location.

The grahpics are stellar compared to previous rainbow games, but not as good as Gears of War.

If all you disliked about previous rainbow games was the beginning when you had to figure out your strategy, map out your teams movements and all of that, then don't worry, you should enjoy this one. If you didn't like the game play, then I would stay away. It's still a first person shooter where you get to lead a team of you and two others, but this time, you simply point to a door for your team to stack up on that door, then you move to another door, give the team the signal to enter (flashbang, grenade, c4, whatever) and you all go in. Simple, easy. Fun, personally.

Like the others said, I would download the demo. It may be old, and it's not as good as the game itself, but it's free and you at least get a taste for what it's kind of like. Beyond that, rent it and see if you like it. It's only what, $4 and the price of gas to get you there and back? Might as well go for it, right?
